Let me tell you a story.
A few years ago, I was tired. Not regular tired — dishes-piling-up, laundry-on-the-floor, haven‘t-vacuumed-in-weeks tired. I had a silicone vibrator that needed cleaning, and my brain decided to be “efficient.”
So I put it in the dishwasher.
Top rack, gentle cycle. I even used the little tablet.
Spoiler: it did not end well. The toy survived, but it came out smelling like lemon-scented regret and making a weird grinding noise. I threw it away the next day.
Don’t be like me.
Cleaning your sex toys is important — but it’s also easy. Here’s everything you actually need to know.
1. Why you need to clean them (besides common sense)
Bacteria, dust, lint, and old lubricant can build up on your toys. Even if you’re the only one using them.
A quick rinse isn’t enough. Proper cleaning:
- Prevents infections (especially if you use toys internally)
- Extends the life of the silicone
- Keeps your toy smelling neutral (not like old soap or worse)
So no, you’re not being paranoid. You’re being smart.
2. The golden rule: match the material
| Material | How to clean | What to avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Medical-grade silicone | Warm water + mild soap, or dedicated toy cleaner | Boiling (ok for non-electronic), harsh chemicals, dishwashers (!!) |
| ABS plastic | Soap and water | Boiling, high heat |
| Glass / stainless steel | Soap and water, can be boiled | Sudden temperature changes |
| TPE / jelly | Soap and water (but consider upgrading to silicone) | Porous materials trap bacteria |
If it’s electronic (has a motor, battery, charging port), never submerge it fully unless it’s labeled IPX7 waterproof. Even then, avoid soaking.

3. The step‑by‑step routine (takes 2 minutes)
For silicone, ABS, or plastic toys:
- Remove any batteries or detach from charger.
- Rinse under warm water to remove surface debris.
- Add a drop of mild, fragrance‑free soap (dish soap or hand soap works).
- Gently lather with your fingers or a soft cloth. Don’t scrub with a sponge — it can scratch the surface.
- Rinse thoroughly.
- Pat dry with a clean towel or let air dry on a rack.
For waterproof electronic toys:
Same steps, but be careful around the charging port. Don’t let water sit inside.
For non‑waterproof toys:
Use a damp cloth with soap, then wipe clean with a wet cloth. Never run them under the tap.
4. Can you boil silicone toys?
Yes — if they’re 100% medical‑grade silicone and have no electronics. A 3‑5 minute boil is a great way to sterilize. But check the product specs first. Boiling a waterproof vibe might damage the seals.
When in doubt, stick to soap and water. It’s enough for everyday use.
5. Storage matters too
After cleaning, let your toy dry completely before storing. Moisture + dark drawer = mold (yes, really).
Use:
- The original storage pouch (most of our products come with one)
- A clean cotton bag
- A dedicated drawer lined with a soft cloth
Don’t store silicone toys touching each other — some silicones can react and degrade. Keep them separated by cloth or in individual pouches.
And for the love of god, don’t put them in the dishwasher.
